A professionally designed and well constructed garden adds considerable value to your property, as well as creating that all important outdoor living space. Every new garden from blueprint is unique and designed to meet the individual needs of both the client and the setting.

The garden design process begins with an initial visit and consultation to discuss your project and view the site. This gives us an opportunity to find out how you intend to use the garden, consider your likes and dislikes, analyse the potential of the site and identify any specific problems. Listening carefully to the client from the outset is an essential part of the process. The consultation also gives you an opportunity to ask questions and to find out more about our practice.

Following the initial consultation we will provide you with a fixed price quotation for the design work requested.

An accurate survey of the existing garden, including levels and soil analysis, is needed before any design work can commence. In most cases, we will carry out the survey ourselves as this provides an invaluable opportunity to analyse the site in detail and get to grips with all the issues involved. However, very large or complex sites may require the services of a professional surveyor and we can recommend a local company to carry out a full topographical survey. If you already have survey drawings for the garden we can work from these, provided they include all the relevant details.

The design layout is a scaled and detailed plan for the new garden, incorporating levels, features and choice of materials, together with supporting sections and elevations as necessary.

As a masterplan for the proposed project, it is used to communicate the design vision to the client and will also be utilised by the contractor to cost and construct the garden.

To ensure that the design is implemented accurately, some projects may require additional detailed drawings of specific structures or features.

We can also produce written specifications setting out in fine detail exactly how the garden is to be constructed.

These drawings and specifications can be useful as part of a competitive tendering process.

We have close working relationships with a number of skilled and reputable  landscape contractors and can recommend the right contractor for your project.

We can also offer on-site supervision of the project as required in order to ensure a satisfactory outcome to the build/planting process.

Garden construction

We can produce detailed planting plans for the whole or part of your garden, showing the location and spacing of all the plants, new and existing, in the proposed scheme. An accompanying schedule lists the plant names, sizes and quantities.

We work closely with the client to ensure that the planting scheme reflects their personal style and preferences, as well as being appropriate for the design, location, soil conditions, aspect and maintenance regime of the particular garden.

We can source, supply and set out all the plants in accordance with the planting plan and organise the planting. Alternatively you may choose to follow the plan and plant the garden yourself. We supply high quality plants of all sizes, sourced from local and national nurseries.

We like to keep in touch and find out how the garden is developing over time.

We are always available to discuss any issues that may arise at a future date and site visits to review the garden can be arranged if required.

Design costs can vary greatly depending upon the nature of the project, its size, complexity and the amount of survey work involved. We usually need to visit the site in order to provide you with an accurate quotation. Initial visits within the Bristol area are generally free of charge. Outside the Bristol area we charge a fee, dependant on your location, to cover time and travel expenses.

Once we have a clear idea of the project brief, we can provide you with a fixed price quotation for the site survey and layout design. If the complexity of the site requires the services of a professional land surveyor, then a separate survey quotation will be supplied. We will be happy to provided you with quotations for any additional design work required as the project unfolds, including detailed planting plans, construction drawings and specifications.

On-site supervision of construction and planting is generally charged at our standard hourly rate and includes time spent travelling to and from our office (for peace of mind, clients can agree a cap on the amount of supervision hours to be incurred per week).
