 Initial Consultation

A professionally designed and well constructed garden adds considerable value to your property, as well as creating an invaluable outdoor living space. Every new garden from blueprint is unique and designed to meet the individual style, desires and aspirations of the client in question.

The garden design process begins with an initial visit and consultation to discuss your requirements and view the site. This gives us an opportunity to find out how you intend to use the garden, discuss your likes and dislikes and to identify any specific problems. Once we have a clear idea of the project brief, we can provide you with a fixed price quotation for the first stage of design work.

 Site Visit and Survey

An accurate survey of the existing garden, including levels and soil analysis, is required before any design work can commence. In most cases, we carry out the survey ourselves as this provides an invaluable opportunity to analyse the site in detail and get to grips with all the issues involved. Very large or complex sites may sometimes require the services of a professional surveyor. If you already have survey drawings for the garden, we can work from these, provided they include all the relevant details.

 Design Layout

This is a scaled and detailed plan for the proposed garden, incorporating levels, features, choice of materials and supporting sections and elevations. It is used for communicating the design vision to the client and is also used by the contractor to cost and construct the garden.

 Construction Drawings and Specifications

Some projects may require detailed drawings of specific structures or features to supplement the design layout. We can also produce written specifications setting out in fine detail exactly how the garden is to be constructed. These drawings and specifications can be useful as part of a competitive tendering process.

 Garden Construction

We have close working relationships with a number of skilled and reputable landscape contractors and can recommend the right contractor for your project. We also provide site and contract supervision to ensure a satisfactory outcome to the build process.

 Planting Design and Garden Planting

We can produce detailed planting plans for the whole or part of your garden, showing the location and spacing of all the plants, new and existing, in the proposed scheme. An accompanying schedule lists the plant names, sizes and quantities. We work closely with the client to ensure that the planting scheme reflects their personal style and preferences, as well as being appropriate for the design, location, soil conditions, aspect and maintenance regime of the particular garden.

We can source, supply and set out all the plants in accordance with the planting plan and organize the planting or you may use the plan to plant the garden yourself. We supply high quality plants of all sizes, sourced from local and national nurseries.

 Aftercare

We like to keep in touch and find out how the garden is developing over time. We are always available to discuss any issues that may arise at a future date and site visits to review the garden can be arranged if required.

 Costs

Design costs can vary greatly depending upon the nature of the project, its size, complexity and the amount of survey work involved. We usually need to see the site first in order to give an accurate quotation. Initial visits within the Bristol area are generally free of charge. Outside the Bristol area we charge a fee to cover time and travel expenses, but this is redeemable against the cost of subsequent design work, should you wish to proceed.

Full contract supervision of construction and planting is usually charged as a percentage of the overall project cost. Alternatively we can provide occasional supervision at an hourly rate.
